The Government do not hold figures for the number of power stations awaiting demolition. Owners of disused power stations do not have to apply to my Department or the Department for the Environment, Transport and the Regions for permission to demolish them.
147WThere are 28 power stations which were in operation in 1990 which are no longer in operation. A further seven stations have been affected by partial station closure.
