HC Deb 23 February 1998 vol 307 c50W
Mr. Maclean

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the last occasion on which his Department redrafted a Private Member's Bill, which was not Government-drafted, before the Bill left Committee. [30506]

Mr. George Howarth

The Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Bill, a Private Member's Bill which had been first introduced in Another Place and which received Royal Assent on 21 March 1997, was the subject of extensive Government amendment during its Committee stage in the House of Commons on 12 March 1997.

The British Nationality (Hong Kong) Bill, another Private Member's Bill which had been first introduced into Another Place and which received Royal Assent on 19 March 1997, was also the subject of extensive Government amendment at its Committee stage on 26 February 1997. These amendments were prepared at much the same time as those for the Dangerous Dogs (Amendment) Bill.
