HC Deb 23 February 1998 vol 307 cc88-9W
Mr. Steen

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what investigations he has made of the level of provision of dental care in each of the towns in the South Hams; and if he will make a statement. [30793]

Mr. Milburn

There were 213 general dental practitioners whose main contract was with the South and West Devon Health Authority in December 1997. Six dentists are currently accepting various categories of National Health Service patients in South Hams.

I understand that the health authority is currently preparing proposals under the Investing in Dentistry initiative which will, if successful, improve the provision of dental care in South Hams.
