To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how many district auditors' public interest reports were published last year; and on which local authorities. [30306]

Mr. Raynsford

I understand from the Audit Commission that during 1997 district auditors published a total of twenty public interest reports. The local authorities concerned were:

  • Allerdale Borough Council
  • Bassetlaw District Council
  • Bristol City Council
  • Bath and North East Somerset Council
  • Coggeshall Parish Council
  • Denbighshire County Council
  • Doncaster MBC
  • Hemsworth Town Council
  • Hertfordshire County Council
  • Lambeth LBC
  • Middlesborough Borough Council
  • Newark and Sherwood District Council
  • Nottinghamshire County Council
  • Redbridge LBC
  • St. Neots Town Council
  • Sheffield City Council
  • Walsall MBC
  • Waltham Forest LBC
  • West Wiltshire District Council
  • Whitworth Town Council.
