To ask the President of the Board of Trade what measures she is taking to help workers in defence-related industries in the Chelmsford area who have been made redundant as a result of the peace dividend; and if she will make a statement. [25715]

Mr. Battle

My Department maintains close contact with local organisations which are working in partnership to address immediate redundancies in the Chelmsford area and long-term dependence on defence related manufacturing.

KONVER funding is being used for retraining and to provide support to start-up businesses.
