To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what estimate he has made of the costs of the extension and conversion of the existing premises at Queensferry Barracks to accommodate 101 Battalion REME after its transfer from Chorley. [63624]

[holding answer 14 December 1998]: Work into the exact cost of adapting the TA Centre at Queensferry to accommodate the Headquarters of 101 Battalion the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers is currently underway.

[holding answer 14 December 1998]: My Department has received representations in favour of retaining 101 Battalion REME and Cadet Force at Devonshire Road Barracks, Chorley, from my hon. Friend the Member for Chorley (Mr. Hoyle), the North West Parliamentary Labour Group, Chorley Borough Council, Adlington Borough Council, Whittle-le-Woods Parish Council and one individual who works at the TA Centre.
