§ Mr. Battle[holding answer 1 December 1998]: My Department has paid a total of around £4.5 million in grant on various schemes to British Aerospace since 1 May 1997. This was mainly under the Civil Aircraft Research and Technology Demonstration Programme (CARAD).
In addition, the Government agreed on 2 February 1998 to invest up to £123 million in a public-private partnership with British Aerospace on the development of the Airbus A340–500/600.
