13. Mr. Martyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for International Development if she will make a statement on her Department's contributions to UNFPA and IPPF for 1998– [39073]

Clare Short

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) provide essential sexual and reproductive health care information and services for many millions of the world's poorest people. They make a significant contribution to better health and control over their fertility, particularly for women. In 1998–99, the Department for International Development (DFID) plans core contributions of £13 million to UNFPA and £5.5 million to IPPF.
