§ Mr. WillsTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence if British veterans of nuclear tests received different lengths and degrees of exposure to radiation in the course of the tests; and what was the extent of such variations. [39427]
§ Mr. SpellarOf the 21,358 test participants included in the study carried out by the National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB), only 1,716 (8 per cent.) had non-zero recorded radiation doses. To determine the length of time over which the doses were accumulated could be done only at disproportionate cost. The NRPB report, published in 1993, contains (on page 12) details of the collective dose and other relevant information. A copy of the report is in the Library of the House.
