Mr. Denzil Davies

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many clients have been interviewed in the Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire New Deal Pathfinder Area at the latest available date; and what percentage of that number have been allocated (i) unsubsidised jobs, (ii) subsidised jobs, and (iii) full-time education and training. [38657]

Mr. Andrew Smith

As at 9 April, 714 New Deal clients had been interviewed in the Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire New Deal Pathfinder area. Of these, 468 are still in the Gateway, receiving advice including help with basic skills etc. Of the 157 who have left the Gateway, 34 (21.6 per cent.) have been placed into unsubsidised jobs. Of the 123 taking up New Deal options, 80 (65 per cent.) are on the employment option, 27 (22 per cent.) are on the full-time education and training option, and 16 (13 per cent.) are on the voluntary sector and/or environment task force options.
