HC Deb 20 April 1998 vol 310 cc397-8W
Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent discussions he has had with the Governments of India and Pakistan concerning their ratification of the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. [38735]

Mr. Tony Lloyd

I discussed this subject with the Indian High Commissioner on 2 April. The UK has made its position clear to the Indian and Pakistani governments in the past and will continue to do so in the future. We continue to urge India and Pakistan to sign both treaties and to support other measures to promote non-proliferation. Our aim is to promote global non-proliferation and efforts to improve security in the region.
