HC Deb 20 April 1998 vol 310 c450W
16. Mr. Gibb

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if he will make a statement on his plans for his Department's role in the disbursement of national lottery money. [37422]

Mr. Chris Smith

The Department will continue to set a framework for the distribution of Lottery money through legislation and through directions issued under that legislation. Distributors will be responsible for decisions on individual applications.

Mr. Fraser

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if he will make a statement on the Government's plans to reduce the proportion of lottery money that will go to the arts, sport, heritage and charities. [37433]

Mr. Chris Smith

The proportion of lottery income which the arts, sport, heritage and charities each receive will be amended to 16.% from 14 October 1997, subject to the passage of the necessary provision in the National Lottery Bill. Each can still expect to receive £1.8 billion over the period of the current licence. This matches their original expectation when the Lottery was launched.
