To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will list the annual rates of sickness absence for employees of the London boroughs of (i) Hackney, (ii) Islington,

centrally. However, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) regularly publish estimates for individual authorities. The information shown is provisional and relates to the position at 31 March 1997, and will be available in their Revenue Collection Statistics 1996–97 publication which is expected to be available from May 1998.

The information on rent arrears is based on information provided by the London boroughs on their Housing Subsidy Claim returns.

Average figures on community charge and council tax arrears for Inner London boroughs are not available as information has not been received from all inner London boroughs.

(iii) Lambeth and (iv) Southwark in each of the years 1990 to 1997; and what were the average figures for Inner London boroughs for each of these years. [38238]
