§ Mr. RaynsfordNo. The scope for meeting housing requirements on brown-field sites is one of the live issues being considered in response to the consultation on accommodating household growth.
§ Mr. JenkinsTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions how many people are currently on waiting lists for social housing in(a) Staffordshire, (b) the West Midlands and (c) England. [16872]
§ Mr. RaynsfordLocal authorities in England report the numbers of households on their housing waiting lists at 1 April each year on their annual Housing Investment Programme (HIP1) returns. The latest available figures relate to the position on 1 April 1996 and are given in the 1996 "HIP 1 All Items Print", a copy of which is in the Library. Local authorities have different practices in compiling and managing their waiting lists with the effect that simple comparisons between authorities can be misleading.
Corresponding data are not collected centrally for housing associations, some of which do not operate waiting lists.
