To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if she will make a statement on progress in the Government's civil action against Arthur Andersen and Co. in relation to De Lorean Motors. [16280]

I am pleased to report that Government and the Arthur Andersen firms have agreed to settle all claims between them arising from the De Lorean case. After some 12 years of litigation both here and in the United States it was in the interests of both parties that the proceedings be brought to a conclusion.

I believe the terms agreed between the parties represent a fair disposal of the action. Details of the settlement will not be disclosed at this time because of on-going legal action in the United States, action in which Her Majesty's Government is not involved.
