To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) what conditions or restrictions are placed on the Clinical Director of the Basildon and Thurrock General Hospitals NHS Trust in relation to his contract with the Nuffield Hospital; [15832]

(2) when the existing contract for the holder of Clinical Director of the Basildon and Thurrock General Hospitals NHS trust expires. [15831]

Trusts are free to set terms and conditions of employment as they think fit. Those of Basildon and Thurrock Hospitals Trust (B&THT) are in line with the Whitley Council. We are advised that the Medical Director of the B&THT has no contract with the Nuffield Hospital.

Each of the executive directors of the B&THT, including the medical director, are employed on rolling 18-month contracts; they have as such no termination date. The executive directors' contracts are subject to regular review by the trust's remuneration committee.
