HC Deb 13 November 1997 vol 300 c604W
Mr. Luff

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what plans he has to improve the safety of the A449 between Worcester and Kidderminster. [15603]

Ms Glenda Jackson

I have asked the Chief Executive of the Highways Agency to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from Lawrie Haynes to Mr. Peter Luff, dated 13 November 1997: The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions has asked me to reply to your recent question about plans to improve the safety of the A449 between Worcester and Kidderminster. The Highways Agency is very concerned about the continuing accident problem on this section of the A449. Earlier this year we commissioned our agents, Hereford and Worcester County Council, to undertake a study to identify ways in which we could prevent specific types of accident and improve safety generally. Their report should be available before the end of the year. As soon as the report is available, I will write to you again to inform you of its recommendations, our response to them and the next steps.
