To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what was the cost of extra-statutory payments by the Benefits Agency in each month since January 1995. [14015]

Details of the monthly expenditure on extra-statutory payments by the Benefits Agency are only held from the commencement of the 1995–96 year. Although individual monthly figures are not available for the period 1 January 1995 to 31 March 1995 the annual amount paid has been included in the table.
