To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how many Bills his Department has sponsored in each of the last 15 years; and how many have been passed by Parliament. [19770]

My Department has been responsible for a total of 63 Government Bills between 1982 and 1996. The breakdown for each year is as follows:

  • 1982: 4
  • 1983: 5
  • 1984: 5
  • 1985: 9
  • 1986: 2
  • 1987: 5
  • 1988: 5
  • 1989: 2
  • 1990: 6
  • 1991: 9
  • 1992: 3
  • 1993: 2
  • 1994: 1
  • 1995: 2
  • 1996: 3

All of these Bills were approved by Parliament, except for one in 1983.
