§ Mr. HinchliffeTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what data is collated via the computer system created by his Department under the auspices of the European Commission regarding the number of veal calves exported in each year from 1990 to 1996. [18206]
§ Mrs. Browning[holding answer 10 March 1997]: The purpose of the Animo computer system, which became operational in Great Britain in November 1993, is to send messages to other member states informing them that animals have been certified for export and are expected to be consigned to their territory. We are able to extract from the system statistical information on the number of animals certified for export, but by its nature this information does not always accord with the actual numbers of animals consigned from Great Britain.
