HC Deb 11 March 1997 vol 292 c171W
Mr. Alton

To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many human embryos have been created since the passage of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1991; how many have been destroyed; how many have been frozen; and how many have been used to secure live births. [19528]

Mr. Horam

I refer the hon. Member to the replies I gave on 25 March 1996, columns421–23. These remain the latest available figures.

The number of babies born from IVF treatments between 1 August 1991 and 31 December 1994 was 12,743, which includes 1,339 from frozen embryo replacement.
