Parliamentary Estate: Hairdressing Services

asked the Chairman of Committees:

Whether, considering that the hairdresser is responsible for the provision of hairdressing service for Members, officers and staff of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, and for others employed on the parliamentary estate, he will ask the Administration Committee of the House of Commons to consult the Administration and Works Sub-Committee of the House of Lords about the proposed change in the hairdressing arrangements, including the redundancy of Mr. Stephen Silverne.

The Chairman of Committees

The provision of hairdressing services is a matter for the House of Commons only. Mr. Silverne is an employee of the House of Commons and the extension of the service to members and staff of the House of Lords is a courtesy granted by kind permission of the House of Commons. The new arrangements are being introduced to allow a unisex service and there is no requirement that the Administration Committee of the House of Commons should consult the Administration and Works Sub-Committee in the House of Lords on this matter.
