HC Deb 04 March 1997 vol 291 cc560-1W
Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how much his Department estimates it cost to establish each executive agency set up by his Department since the start of April 1992. [16971]

Mr. Burt

The Department of Social Security has set up two agencies since April 1992. The total cost of setting up the Child Support Agency was approximately £146 million which includes the cost of the work transferred from the Benefits Agency, the costs of computers, accommodation, recruitment and training of staff in the administration of new legislation.

The cost of setting up the War Pensions Agency was approximately £1 million as it retained an existing organisation and staff together with the same framework of legislation.
