HC Deb 16 June 1997 vol 296 cc69-70W
Mr. Dawson

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what new measures he proposes to support beef farmers whose livelihoods are under threat. [3399]

Mr. Rooker

Considerable amounts of money have been allocated to help relieve some of the financial pressures facing the industry. Significant sums are also currently being spent on the calf processing scheme and expanded intervention arrangements. In the circumstances we do not currently envisage additional payments to producers to compensate for the current low level of prices.
