§ Dawn Primarolo[holding answer 21 July 1997]: The Government welcome the commitment by member states to consider measures to eliminate significant distortions in the area of indirect taxation. In particular, we are keen to see progress on alcohol and tobacco duties where significant cross-border trade is distorted by varying rates of duty.
