§ Mr. DewarI believe that local communities should be prominently represented on public bodies whose work affects their areas. I have already announced measures to strengthen local democratic control of the Scottish water authorities. I shall continue to look for further opportunities to strengthen local community representation on the boards of non-departmental public bodies.
§ Dr. GodmanTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what plans he has to modify public appointment procedures; and if he will make a statement. [5342]
§ Mr. Dewar[holding answer 26 June 1997]: We are committed to full implementation of the Nolan procedures on public appointments. I am considering with colleagues how this might best be taken forward.
