Robertson[holding answer 13 January 1997]: Work on the prior options reviews of the five Scottish agricultural and biological research institutes and of the Scottish Agricultural Science Agency was undertaken mainly by Scottish Office staff. The cost to my Department of each review was approximately £20,000. This excludes the cost of other Government Department and research council input on the interdepartmental steering committees which oversaw the reviews of the institutes and of other public sector research establishments in the same groupings.
