To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what percentage of employees of working age received on-the-job training in(a) the south-west and (b) the United Kingdom broken down by gender in the most recent year for which figures are available. [9977]

From the spring 1996 labour force survey, the percentage of employees of working age who received on-the-job training in the four weeks prior to the interview is:
