HC Deb 13 January 1997 vol 288 cc7-8W
Mr. Ainger

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage how much Millennium Commission grant aid has been offered to projects in Wales to date; how many projects this figure covers; and what is grant aid per head of population in Wales. [7616]

Mrs. Virginia Bottomley

[holding answer 16 December 1996]: The Millennium Commission has supported eight capital projects in Wales, two capital projects which cover England and Wales, and four projects which cover the whole of the UK. Of the eight capital projects supported specifically in Wales, the total grant aid to date is £92,824,028. Of the projects which cover more than one country, £11.2 million has been allocated to Wales, making a total capital projects allocation of £104,024,028. The commission has also offered grant to six millennium award schemes. These grants are allocated in response to applications. Four will cover the whole of the UK and one scheme for £365,134 is specifically targeted at Wales. Thus, the total grant allocation is £104,389,162. Working on the basis that the population of Wales is 2,906,500, grant aid per head is £35.92.
