Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage how many universities and colleges have applied for lottery funding in order to improve their provision for sport. [17406]

Mr. Sproat

To date, 96 applications have been made for a total of £162 million. These figures include successful, unsuccessful, withdrawn and lapsed applications, and those currently under consideration.

To date, the national lottery distributing bodies have announced 43 awards for the provision of sport in universities and colleges, for a total of £26.2 million.
