HC Deb 22 December 1997 vol 303 c431W
Mrs. Brinton

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions (1) when the current phase of the Joint Enforcement Database initiative pilot scheme will be completed; [21783]

(2) when later phases of the Joint Enforcement Database initiative pilot scheme will be implemented. [21784]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The Joint Enforcement Database Initiative (JEDI) comprises several stages and is still under development.

Stage one, phase one of JEDI commenced with the issue of notebook computers to Vehicle Inspectorate enforcement staff in April 1997. Planning for stage one's other phases has yet to be completed. Stage one, phase two—the first operational system—the provision of enquiry access to the test result database and the ability to input roadside inspection results, is now scheduled for implementation in August 1998. The remaining phases of this stage are likely to be implemented throughout 1999.

The timing of subsequent stages has yet to be decided.
