§ Ms Quin[holding answer 18 December 1997]: The number of untried male prisoners is expected to be 8,100 on 31 December 1997, the nearest date to 1 January for which projections are made. The number of convicted unsentenced male prisoners is expected to be 3,000 on 31 December. Female remand prisoners are expected to number 570 on 31 December. The projections do not separate female remand prisoners by whether they are convicted or not.
