HC Deb 19 December 1997 vol 303 cc341-2W
Mr. Maude

To ask the Minister without Portfolio what progress has been made in the process of decontaminating the Millennium Exhibition site at Greenwich; and what steps he has taken to ensure public safety. [21015]

Angela Eagle

I have been asked to reply.

Since English Partnerships, the Government's regeneration agency, purchased the site at Greenwich Peninsula from British Gas in February 1997, work on remediating the land has progressed quickly. British Gas were responsible for the statutory decontamination. English Partnerships has undertaken extensive further work to a standard suitable for accommodating the Millennium Experience. All aspects of the remediation work have been carried out to statutory health and safety standards.
