To ask the Secretary of State for Health what is the current total of NHS trust hospitals. [19557]

§ Mr. Milburn
Prior to 1991 information was available centrally on the number of hospitals with residential facilities. Data ceased to be collected at unit level in 1991.
The number of national health service hospital trusts in England is 399, although a trust may consist of more than one hospital.
