To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Transport and the Regions which regional development agency will take the lead responsibility for the Thames gateway initiative. [19417]

Mr. Raynsford

The Thames Gateway area will be covered by the Regional Development Agencies for London, the South East and the Eastern Region. It will be for these three Agencies to agree on arrangements for handling issues such as the Thames Gateway, which straddle their boundaries. This will include whether one of the Agencies should take a lead responsibility and, if so, which one should take that role.
