§ Ms Glenda Jackson[holding answer 12 December 1997]: A copy of the report, published by the Marine Safety Agency on 20 May 1996, will be placed in the Libraries of both Houses. The report contains four recommendations which appear on pages 29 and 30. These cover development of additional guidance on emergency procedures; investigation of why some liferafts inflated very slowly during the test evacuation; examination of launching procedures to ensure an uninterrupted supply of liferafts; and further investigation of ferry evacuation times, using formal safety assessment techniques where appropriate.
