To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what proposals he has to improve the London Underground network. [566]

London Transport is investing over £1.1 billion in the current year. This is four times as much in real terms as was spent in 1979.

With substantial support from Government, both through public funding and the private finance initiative, London Underground is undertaking a comprehensive programme of investment both in modernising its existing infrastructure and rolling stock and in constructing the Jubilee line extension.
