HC Deb 28 October 1996 vol 284 cc23-4W
Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment from what sources he draws his evidence of global temperature changes; and on whom he relies for the evaluation of this information. [495]

Mr. Clappison

The Hadley centre, Bracknell, complies global temperature data and analyses them for indications of change. The result of the Hadley centre's work are published in scientific journals and hence subject to peer review. These results, with the work of other investigators around the world, have been assessed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change—IPCC—and reported in the IPCC's most recent report, the second assessment of climate change 1995.
