HC Deb 25 November 1996 vol 286 c92W
Mr. Worthington

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many(a) Asians and (b) travellers live in Northern Ireland; and what percentage of each are unemployed. [5027]

Mr. Moss

The Northern Ireland 1991 census did not include a question on ethnic group. A recent survey by the university of Ulster estimated that there are between 3,125 and 5,125 Chinese, 1,050 Indians, 641 Pakistanis and 1,366 travellers living in Northern Ireland. The social security computer systems do not hold details of ethnicity in relation to the statistics on the unemployed.
