To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many primary and secondary schools in each education authority in England(a) are in deficit or (b) are projected to fall into deficit in the current year. [5998]

In relation to the first part of the question, I will write to the hon. Member in the new year when the Department has completed its detailed examination of the local management of schools outturn statements produced by local education authorities for the financial year 1995–96. Information about projected deficits is not collected by the Department
