To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on his Department's policy towards the crossrail project in London. [4015]

Mr. Bowis

As my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State confirmed on 2 April, crossrail is expected to come after the Jubilee line extension, Thameslink 2000 and the channel tunnel rail link in the sequence of major new rail projects for London. Railtrack is considering the project in the light of the Government's policy that it should proceed as a joint venture with a substantial private sector contribution.
