HC Deb 21 November 1996 vol 285 c628W
Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps he is taking to monitor air quality around the Castle Cement plant in Clitheroe. [4715]

Mr. Clappison

The Department of the Environment has established a fixed monitoring station in the village of Chatburn in the vicinity of the Ribblesdale plant. The station is carrying out monitoringfor PM10 (fine particles) using both the tapered element oscillating microbalance ("TEOM") automatic method and non-continuous sampling; for NOx using the continuous ozone chemiluminescence system; for NO2 non-continuously using diffusion tubes; for SO2 using the continuous UV flourescence method.

All pollutant measurements will be quality assured to national standards.
