HC Deb 04 November 1996 vol 284 c331W
Mr. Robert McCartney

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has made this year to the Government of the Irish Republic about the protection and security of British citizens resident in border areas. [1159]

Mr. Rifkind

No British national resident in the border areas of the Irish Republic has contacted the embassy in Dublin or this Department this year with concerns about their protection and security. Accordingly the British Government have made no representations on this subject to the Irish Government. If such concerns were expressed, the embassy in Dublin and this Department stand ready to offer appropriate help or advice.
