HC Deb 14 May 1996 vol 277 c429W
Mr. Mullin

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations he has received regarding the convictions of Peter William Hurtt; on what date such representations were received; and when he expects to reach a decision. [28905]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

Representations on Mr. Hurtt's behalf were sent to my right hon. Friend on 22 May 1989, on 1 September 1992, on 4 May 1993 and on 29 August 1994. The three earlier representations have already been dealt with. The most recent representations allege that new scientific evidence has come to light which casts doubt on the safety of Mr. Hurtt's conviction. My right hon. Friend hopes to reach a decision on the latest petition as soon as may be possible.
