HC Deb 13 May 1996 vol 277 c347W
Mr. Foulkes

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what results have been obtained by the marine laboratory in Aberdeen from its survey of sludge dumped at Garrock Head; what evidence of the effect of polychlorinated biphenyls, DDT or Dieldrin in the food chain has been evaluated; what action he has taken or will take to deal with the problems arising; and if he will make a statement. [28100]

Mr. Raymond S. Robertson

The Scottish Office Agriculture, Environment and Fisheries Department's marine laboratory in Aberdeen regularly monitors contaminant levels at Garroch Head. All results of this monitoring programme are published or are available for public inspection. Fish analyses show that detected levels of contamination are well below internationally agreed limits. The marine laboratory's monitoring programme will continue up to and beyond 1998, when sewage sludge dumping in UK waters will cease.
