To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many staff, by grade, are employed at the Salisbury tax office of the Inland Revenue; how many members of the public visited the office in person; and how many telephone calls were received by the office in the last 12 month period for which figures are conveniently available.

Details of the staff currently employed at the Salisbury tax office are as follows:
Number Grade Technical staff (Inspectors) 9 (2 in Pay bands A&B, 7 in Pay band C) Clerical staff 46 (13 in Pay band D, 33 in Pay band E) Secretarial 2 Permanent staff (+ casual assistance as required)
During the year to March 1996 the Salisbury tax office and tax inquiry centre received 10,126 visits from members of the public and answered 48,626 telephone calls.
