HC Deb 07 May 1996 vol 277 c14W
Mr. Key

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many mobile advice centres are operated by the Inland Revenue; where they are based; what destinations each has visited in the last 12 months for which figures are available; how many staff are normally attached to each mobile advice centre; and how many cases were handled at each destination. [27848]

Mr. Jack

During the year to March 1996 the Inland Revenue operated six mobile advice centres. Two of these were based in Cardiff and the others in Telford, Stourbridge, Exeter and Andover. Each employed between two and four members of staff depending on the location visited. Visits were made to some 300 locations throughout Britain and more than 67,000 inquiries from members of the public were dealt with. No detailed breakdown of these figures is available to show the number of inquiries dealt with at each location.

From April 1996 a further mobile advice centre is operating from Middlesbrough.
