HC Deb 07 May 1996 vol 277 cc42-3W
Mr. Gordon Prentice

To ask the President to the Board of Trade what steps he is taking to improve the performance of British Gas as a result of complaints registered in the north-west region by the Gas Consumers Council. [28101]

Mr. Eggar

The performance of British Gas is a matter for the company. It has said in response to the Gas Consumers Council's annual report of performance in 1995 that it is working very hard to restore high levels of service.

The Government are ensuring, through the phased introduction of competition in domestic gas supply, that consumers have a choice, as they have at present in gas servicing.
