HC Deb 07 May 1996 vol 277 c25W
Mr. Llwyd

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what proportion of the population in Wales were registered with dentists for continuing care in(a) 1990, (b) 1992, (c) 1993, (d) 1994 and (e) 1995 in the age groups (i) 18 to 64 years, (ii) 65 to 74 years and (iii) 75 years and more; and if he will make a statement. [27437]

Mr. Richards

New arrangements for the registration of patients with general dental practitioners were introduced at the end of 1990. However, as it took some time for patients to register, meaningful data were not available until 1991. The available data, collected by the Dental Practice Board, are given in the following table:

Percentage of people registered at the end of September
Year Age groups
18–64 65–74 75+
1991 44.4 29.6 18.8
1992 62.7 42.1 30.0
1993 62.3 42.2 29.7
1994 61.4 42.2 30.1
19951 58.6 39.6 29.8
1 1994 population data (the latest available) have been used to calculate these figures.
