HC Deb 07 May 1996 vol 277 cc84-5W
Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he has had, and with which bodies, on the Council of Europe Cuco report on the Turkish settlers living in occupied northern Cyprus; and if he will make a statement. [27619]

Mr. David Davis

We have had no discussions on this report since exchanging views at the Council of Europe Ministers' Deputies meetings in December 1992 and March 1993.

Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what discussions he has had, and with whom, regarding the military airfield in Turkish-occupied Cyprus at Lefkoniko; and what use is made of this airfield. [27635]

Mr. Davis

None. Lefkoniko is not a military airfield. It is a small civil airport used for one month each year when the main airport in northern Cyprus is closed for repair and renovation, or when flights are diverted.

Mr. Cox

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what replies he has received from the high commissioner in Cyprus on the establishment of an Islamic fundamentalist party in the Turkish Cypriot-occupied area of northern Cyprus; and if he will make a statement. [27897]

Mr. Davis

In early December 1995, there were reports in the Turkish Cypriot press of plans to found an Islamic party. We have seen no evidence that such a party has been established.
